Sustainable Apparel Coalition Rebrands, Unveils New Name and Logo
Global non-profit the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) has announced a name change complete with new logo design.
Rebranding as “Cascale”, the organisation’s member list includes over 300 retailers, brands, manufacturers, governments, academics, industry associations, and NGOs/non-profits.
“As Cascale evolves to address the needs of a broader scope of consumer goods beyond apparel and footwear, I’m proud to celebrate this new vision of an organisation that is close to my heart,” says co-founder and former vice president of sustainability and public engagement at Patagonia, Rick Ridgeway.
As for the new name, the “Cas” in Cascale is “SAC” reversed, while “CA” refers to “collective action” and “scale” is said to reference “scaled ambitions”.
“The ‘C’ in Cascale evokes a new ‘phase’ similar to lunar cycles in nature, as well as moonlight or a mirrored reflection. The logo’s elements symbolise the organisation’s three member categories, and external stakeholders,” further explains a spokesperson for the California-headquartered outfit.
Founded in 2009 by Walmart and outdoor gear brand Patagonia, the organisation aims to reduce the environmental and social impacts of products around the world.
In 2012 it also launched the Higg Index, a self-assessment standard for the apparel and footwear industry that rates environmental and social sustainability throughout the supply chain.
